Winter Term 1997
- On the first night of the term, January 5, someone threw the 4th Watson TV off the balcony, causing an estimated $800 of damage. No one was hurt. A string of vandalism ensued and several articles in The Carletonian were written on the subject, but the perpetrator was never caught.
- In addition to vandalism, a series of thefts allegedly committed by a Northfield crime ring ensued. According to an article in The Carletonian on February 8, 1997, $6,325 of items were stolen in January alone.
- The French and Francophone major and the Women's Studied major were first approved. Before, they had only been available as concentrations.
- Campus Activities rented an entire movie theatre in Edina on Saturday, February 1 for the re-release of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope and again on Saturday, February 22 for Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Students (and a few alums) who signed up were bussed to the theatre for these Carleton-only showings. (There was no similar showing for the re-release of The Return of the Jedi, as this came out during Spring Break.)
Spring Term 1997
- The Class of 1997 graduated from Carleton.
