AIM

The vast majority of Carleton students have free accounts on AOL Instant Messenger, more commonly known as AIM (usually pronounced "A-I-M"). The process of messaging someone on AIM is known as "IM-ing." It is becoming increasingly common for faculty members, as an experiment, to allow students to IM them, although e-mail remains the most common means of student-teacher interaction outside of class and office hours.
