Beijing Seminar
From CarlWiki
The Beijing Seminar, also called the "Beijing Program," is a twelve-week off-campus program conducted by Carleton professor Roy Grow and former Carleton professor Penelope Prime. The seminar studies the economic development and role of the state in nations throughout East Asia. The 2006 Seminar studied in Thailand, Vietnam, China, and Hong Kong. The seminar was primarily based at the Univeristy of International Business and Economics (UIBE) in Beijing, China.
The seminar is also well known on campus for its connection to the 2003 Severe Acute Respitory Syndrome (SARS) crisis in Asia. The seminar was studying in China when the disease was spreading rapidly, and returned early to Carleton and was quarantined.
