Bird Loomis

Bird (Burdett) Loomis, Class of 1967, was editor of the Algol in 1964-65, a soccer player, and a Rotblatt star. He was also known to hang out with Schiller.

He earned an MA and a PhD in political science at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Between 1973-79, he taught at the University of Wisconsin, Indiana University, and Knox College (where he also coached soccer). He has taught political science at the University of Kansas since 1979. He was the interim director of the Robert J. Dole Institute of Politics and Director of Administrative Communications, for Kathleen Sebelius when she was governor of Kansas.

He has been an APSA Congressional Fellow, a visiting scholar at the Brookings Institution, and a consultant to the U.S. Department of State in Iraq, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Brazil, the British West Indies and Mexico.

He is also currently a partner in Las Posadas of Sedona
