Boliou was built as a studio and classroom building for the Art Department in 1949. It was designed by Magney, Tusler and Setter of Minneapolis. A 1993 addition was designed by Cambridge Seven Associates, of Massachusettes.

Boliou Fountain

The Boliou Fountain was commissioned by the college to commemorate its centennial year in 1967. Raymond I. Jacobson, Associate Professor of Art, created the work while Russell Ferlen, instrument maker in the Olin Hall of Science, invented the revolving water jet mechanism. The fountain rotates once every two weeks when the weather is warm enough for the fountain to function. (Jacobson also designed the fountain in Northfield's Bridge Square which was commissioned by Sheldahl Corporation for its 25th Anniversary in 1980.)
