Administrators (or admins), also known as Sysops ("system operators"), are users with certain priveleges:

  • Admins can delete pages, and undelete them. (Other users can request that a page be deleted at CarlWiki:Requests for deletion.)
  • Admins can edit "protected" pages that are critical to the wiki's operation, and decide which pages are protected.
  • Admins can "rollback" changes with a single click, allowing them to undo changes more easily than other users.
  • Admins can block users and IP addresses. (This is only done in cases of flagrant vandalism or policy violations.)

You may wish to contact an admin for some reason. An up-to-date list of admins can be found at Special:Listusers/sysop.

How to become an administrator

Those who make useful contributions and show dedication to better organizing the wiki will be nominated for admin status. Having an established account on Wikipedia is another plus, and you can demonstrate this by interlinking between the two account pages. It also helps to be cautious and considerate in your edits. At a minimum, the requirements for admin status are:

  • Your account must be under your real name. (To request that your account name be changed, make a post at CarlWiki:Request name change.)
  • You must be a current or former student, staff, or faculty member at Carleton College.
  • You must be interested in CarlWiki!

The reason for this cautious policy should be clear, given the power that admins have. You may nominate others or yourself for admin status below. Your nomination will be discussed on this page and either granted or denied within one week.
