Questions
Succession boxes
Q: I just added a List of Carleton Presidents, as a prelude to putting in a succession box on Presidents Cowling and Gould, and eventually on the others when their articles are written. As a guide, I used code from Wikipedia's article on Wikipedia:Pierce Butler (justice). It didn't seem to work. Is there some additional coding that needs to happen, or extensions (that presumably a moderator would need) to install, or am I jumping way ahead of myself in terms of what Carlwiki can should do? ----Chris Johnson '96 2006-04-21 14:26 CDT
A: CarlWiki does have the same features as Wikipedia, but the succession box is a specific template that you would have to replicate here. When you use the code {{succession box}}, it includes the code from the page Template:succession box. You could replicate the code from the Wikipedia template page to the CarlWiki template page, and then the code would work. For a more thorough guide to using templates, check out Wikipedia:Help:A quick guide to templates. --Trevor Burnham '07 12:55, 21 April 2006 (PDT)
Q: Ah, I see. After poking around Wikipedia's templates for a bit, I'm realizing that I'm over my head (at least, given the amount of time I'm willing and able to devote to it this afternoon). I'll have to play around with this one for a while. --User:Chris Johnson '96 15:12, 21 April 2006 (CDT)
A: Got succession boxes to work, finally. I can see these being used on more than just the college presidents, but also on deans of students, department chairs, and all those class year pages. Edit the page any of the presidents listed at List of college presidents to find the basic code for how to use them. --Chris Johnson '96 11:12, 5 May 2006 (PDT)
Caucus references
Q: Can someone tell me the correct format to use for a Caucus URL when I'm using it as a reference? Just cutting and pasting the URL isn't working. --Chris Johnson '96 11:26, 27 April 2006 (PDT)
A: WHEE! I got it to work! To link to a specific post in Caucus, you add /"topic"/"response" to the URL as you list. For example, http://caucus.carleton.edu/Cobwebs/9/3 takes you to response 3 of topic 9 of the Cobwebs conference. I got me some references to fix up now! --Chris Johnson '96 13:07, 27 April 2006 (PDT)
