CarlWiki talk:User names

I think it would be a good idea to include class years in usernames, both because it gives instant context to who's writing the entries and because it can distinguish people with similar (or even the same) name. --Scott Konzem 2006 01:33, 31 Dec 2004 (PST)

  • Whoops, I tried to post something here yesterday, but I guess there was a technical problem. Anyway, after thought, I'm inclined to agree. The reason I'd recommended not using class years was mostly because it would be nice for people to type User:Scott Konzem in the Go box (or link to it), without knowing your class year. However, this can be solved using redirects (and, if there are multiple people with the same name, disambiguation pages). So, how about if we put user names in the format people are more used to seeing in The Carletonian and such: Scott Konzem '06? This Wiki software has no objection to apostrophes. --Trevor Burnham 12:38, 31 Dec 2004 (PST)
