Carleton-St. Olaf Rivalry
From CarlWiki
The Carleton-St. Olaf Rivalry has been around nearly as long as St. Olaf has been in existence. It is a natural rivalry, since the schools are just a few miles apart from each other in Northfield. The rivalry is most prominent at athletic events, but is not limited to them. While generally a fairly friendly rivalry, it has been known to be bitter at times, and very rarely there have been fights between Carleton and St. Olaf students.
Aspects of the Rivalry
- The first formal athletic competition between the two schools came in 1887, when Carleton's Baseball team beat St. Olaf's.
- Both basketball and football teams compete for a Goat Trophy every year.
- The Carleton Cheerboys sing a parody of the St. Olaf fight song, entitled "Screw Ya Ya," in mockery of the St. Olaf fans when the teams meet in football.
