Carleton students frequently say things that make little sense to non-Carleton students. This category includes much, though not all, of the well-known lingo employed at Carleton. Lingo that is more or less universal among American colleges is not included. For instance, "alum" for "alumnus," "prof" for "professor," and "freshman" (the more common term) for "first-year student."
