Chelsea 11:17
From CarlWiki
Chelsea 11:17 is a comedy event held several times each term, in the Nourse Little Theater. Students bring strange, hilarious, quirky, unconventional, and just-plain-funny scripts to the theater at 11:17 PM, on a Friday. Historically, this time was chosen to allow students to view the SUMO films and still come to Chelsea afterwards.
Before Chelsea begins, students responsible for running the event (currently known as Chelsea Gnomes), collect all scripts. These scripts are then redistributed to students in the audience, willing or otherwise. Participants have only a few minutes to read over their script before being shoved onstage and performing. The resulting chaos is a source of great amusement to all involved.

History
Chelsea 11:17 was started during Winter Term 1993 by Wendy West '94 and Kenneth Allendoerfer '93. It was named for Chelsea Clinton, daughter of then-president Bill Clinton, who at that time was a geeky 13-year-old, and who was one of the first "ingredients" (along with "Petri dish" and "a bad pun").[1]
Originally, the Chelsea Gnomes were called "Elves," and announced three "ingredients," items or ideas that should be included in the following week's scripts. For example, the ingredients for 10/3/1997 were linoleum, pantyhose, and a Guy named Marv. (From the Carleton Theater Caucus conference, item 109:20.) Once per term, a No Shame night was held, wherein scripts could be about any topic and parts could be assigned in advance by the writer.
In the fall of 2004, a group of students came together to attempt to restart Chelsea. The reinaugural CHELSEA, acronymized (that's a word now) to stand for "Creative Handwritten Episodes Lovingly Submitted or Extracted from Ass," was held on November 17, 2004, the last day of classes of Fall term, also 11/17/04. Get it? Afterwards, under the aegis of Rachel Teagle and Ben Egerman, CHELSEA implemented a "bring your prospie" policy, which resulted in a humongous jump in interest from 2004-5 to 2005-6. CHELSEA audiences, while last year generally being no more than 30, now often number over 50, and Nourse Little Theater has been on several occasions been filled to the brim (capacity 112) during end-of-term CHELSEAs.
