Main Lounge

One of the primary attractions of first Nourse is the Main Lounge. This lounge, the second biggest on the campus, is often used in tours of Carleton given to prospective students due to its atypical size and comfort. Indeed, the furniture is very comfortable. However, it is said that the former furniture was even more comfortable and also had wheels, which were frequently used to play "bumper chairs" and to roll down the hallway at breakneck speeds. The Lounge also has a fully functional fireplace, a dinner table, and a large television.

Controversy

Because the Nourse main lounge is such a popular spot, many non-first Nourse residents will flock to the lounge so that they can enjoy it, despite having their own lounges in their own dorms. This can prevent residents of First Nourse from using their rightful lounge for their own purposes.

Notable Events

Many notable events have taken place in the Main Lounge. These include the First Nourse potluck (aka StarchFest 2005) and weekly SWA-ffice hours.

Kitchen

The first nourse kitchen is separate from the lounge, unlike the situation on most other dorm floors. It is equipped with a refrigerator, stove, microwave, cupboards, and a table and chairs. Plates, bowls, cooking ware, and utensils must be supplied by the residents. In the past the kitchen has had a quote board that was the source of great amusement for the floor's freshmen.

Bathrooms

As is the case with most bathroom situations, the women's room is significantly better and more comfortable than the men's. The women's room has two toilets, 3 showers, and 3 sinks, arranged very conveniently. The men's room is very inefficiently organized, with a shower, a toilet, a stall that shares a shower and toilet, and 2 sinks. The bathrooms also contain valuable health information provided by the beloved Nourse SWAs.
