French, a Romance language often taught in high schools, is a fairly popular language offered at Carleton. Like other languages, it fulfills the language requirement, has space in the language house, and employs a language associate.

Culture

The French Club holds various events throughout the term to promote an understanding of French culture beyond classes. The language associate, Lucie Bravard for the 2005-2006 academic year, is responsible for conducting these events.

Events

  • Pause CafĂ©: 4:00 - 5:30PM on Mondays in the first Parish lounge
  • Movie Night: 8:00 - 10:00PM on Mondays in the Parish basement lounge
  • Radio Show: 2:00 - 3:00PM on Wednesdays on KRLX
  • Lunch Table: 12:00 - 1:00PM on Thursdays at the LDC

Completing this four-course sequence fulfills the language requirement.

Study Abroad

The French department runs the Paris Program every spring. Other opportunities through SIT and various study-abroad programs are available.
