Freshman
From CarlWiki
A freshman is someone in their first year of college.
Freshmen arrive on campus a few days before upperclassmen during Fall Term, to participate in New Student Week and get oriented to the college. Residential Life assigns rooms and roommates to freshmen, all of whom live in doubles or triples.
Due to its possible sexist connotations, the college officially recommends that the term first-year student be used whenever possible, and many professors do so. However, nearly all Carleton students use the term "freshman" in their daily routines, with no offense intended. For some years, frosh was widely used as a gender-neutral term, though this has fallen into disuse.
