Grimace
From CarlWiki
The mid-core IM ultimate frisbee team, Grimace, was founded in Spring of 1992 by Tyson Nunemacher '95 and Eric Person '95 to compete with the likes of Agorophobia, Chunderbunnies, Buddy and Grimace's arch-rivals, Sparky the Wonderdog. Grimace never did manage to compete with any of the first three, but they did enjoy some success against Sparky. Later on, a new rival emerged in Loose Change, featuring elements of Sparky and estranged members of Grimace. After helping fashion vintage tie-die jerseys in the basement of Allen House during the Summer of 1992, decorated with the classic "Grimace-and-bear-it" happy/sad face, and playing that Fall, Eric Person moved on, and the core solidified around Chris Gutmann '95, the consistently erratic Evan Scooler '95, Jenny Laird Nunemacher '95, Tripp Bishop '95, Gillie English Bishop '94, Nick Babicky '94 and Andres Springborn '94. What Grimace lacked in quality, they made up for in spirit and longevity, as they made a habit of recruiting talented youngsters to catch their windy-day blades and chase down their frequently errant hucks. In its best finish during the early years, Grimace did make the finals of the Spring 1995 mid-core campaign before losing to a group of up and coming Syzygy and CUT players calling themselves Just Friends.
Upon the graduation of Grimace's founders, the torch was passed along to an underclassman, Tim Collyer '97, who managed to perpetuate the Grimace tradition, building on a strong foundation which was to carry the team through many incarnations, well into the next decade. In 2002, Grimace surpassed the 10-year mark, establishing itself as one of the longest-tenured IM teams in Carleton's history.
In both 2000 and 2005, members of Grimace and Sparky squared off in reunion grudge matches. Both contests went to Sparky.
In 1995, members of Grimace and Sparky the Wonderdog combined to launch the successful and spirited IC men's team, Gods of Plastic (GOP).
