Intramural Sports, or IM Sports, is a system of recreational athletic activities at Carleton. Administration of Intramural Sports is handled by Mikki Showers, Director of Recreational Sports & Manager of the Recreation Center. Student workers, known as "czars", are hired to perform the administration and scheduling of each indivual activity.

All intramural sports are open to any Carleton student, faculty, and staff member (in reality, few faculty and staff members take part, but recent graduates and townies are occasionally invited onto teams). Specific sports may have their own rules concerning the participation of intercollegiate and club team members, which work to limit "packing" those players on the same team. Sports may also have rules concerning the inclusion of men and women, however, all sports are co-ed.

Activities range from indoor and outdoor, team and individual, fall, winter, and spring sports. Popular sports are divided into skill level leagues, often referred to as "soft-core" and "hard-core", with slightly different rules and competitiveness for each league. The most common division is the "floor" league, where teams are comprised of students living on the same floor (or multiple floors) of a dorm or campus house.

In the dim past (1950s and '60s), the IM was a program for male students organized by residence hall floors. Football and basketball were the most popular sports, although there were other competitions. Football tournament games, played in a field behind the libe, attracted audiences on the field and from all library floors.

Rotblatt was originally organized outside of the IM program and funded through CSA.
