Introduction to Physics
From CarlWiki
The Introduction to Physics, usually referred to by Physics majors as simply "the intro sequence," is the series of courses required for students pursuing the Physics major. It should not be confused with Elementary Physics, a course that is not applicable to the Physics major.
The sequence is normally taken in either Fall Term or Winter Term of the aspiring major's freshman year, but this is not possible for all students, as the sequence required either completion or concurrent registration of Calc II as a prerequisite.
The sequence consists of two 5-week classes, each counting for 3 credits. However, there are two options for the class taken during the first 5 weeks. During Fall term, the class is Newtonian Mechanics (PHYS 113). During Winter term, both that class and Gravity and the Cosmos (PHYS 114) are offered. The two are considered to be equivalent for the purpose of the major, and cover much of the same material. The class taken during the second 5 weeks is Relativity and Particles (PHYS 115), which is offered in both Fall term and Winter term.
The next class taken after the intro sequence is normally Atomic and Nuclear Physics (PHYS 228).
