Physics and Astronomy Department

The Physics and Astronomy Department of Carleton College is one of the science departments located in Olin Hall. It currently offers only one major, the Physics major, although an Astronomy major was offered as well until 1971. The department continues to offer several astronomy courses.
The department was formed in 1967 when the Astronomy Department was merged with the Physics Department. Before that, the Astronomy Department was part of the Mathematics and Astronomy Department.
The title of Department Chair rotates among the faculty. The current chair is Nelson Christensen.
