The Recreation Center, more commonly referred to as simply the Rec Center or the Rec, is Carleton's newest and largest athletic facility. It is home to a large fitness center, raquetball courts, and a climbing wall. It is located across the Lyman Lakes from the main part of the campus, and is behind Goodhue Hall.

History

The Rec Center was highly controversial at the time of its planning and construction. The college already had multiple recreation centers, and the new one was built at a distance from the rest of the campus (except for Goodhue Hall) and at a cost of $15 million. However, it is now a draw to many students, with its state-of-the-art equipment. It opened on April 3, 2000.
