S/CR/NC
From CarlWiki
S/CR/NC (sometimes S/Cr/Nc), pronounced "scrunch," is the Carleton equivalent of pass-fail. It stands for Satisfactory/Credit/No Credit, where a C- or better receives an S, any kind of D receives a Cr, and an F receives an NC. In conversation, S/CR/NC can be used as a noun ("I took this course as S/CR/NC"), but is more commonly used as a verb ("I S/CR/NCed this course.") Carleton students may S/CR/NC normal courses worth up to a total of 30 credits during their time at Carleton.
Some courses at Carleton are offered on a S/CR/NC-only basis, including freshman seminars numbered 100 and all PE courses. These courses do not, of course, count toward the 30-credit limit.
Process
In order to S/CR/NC a normal course, students must first designate it as a S/CR/NC option during the first two weeks of the term (before the deadline for drop/add) and then "activate" that option later in the term, at any time before the last day of class. The initial designation is done by filling out and signing a pink slip in the Registrar's Office. The activation is done by asking the Registrar's Office for the slip, signing it a second time, and giving it back to them. Within two days, the course should show up on the student's online class schedule as S/CR/NCed.
Students may only designate one potential class for S/CR/NC each term. Students may not S/CR/NC courses within their major.
