In the Sibley School Incident of the fall of 2002, a group of Carleton students participating in a Video Scavenger Hunt distributed fliers at Sibley Elementary School in Northfield saying that school had been cancelled the next day because a group of Carleton students had assaulted administrators and teachers at the school. When an elementary school child called the students on their lie, they fled the scene. The incident caused a large stir in Northfield, and there were several articles about it in the Northfield News newspaper.

The video scavenger hunt item to which they were responding, from a list of over a hundred possible items, was to "lie to a child."
