Carleton College Board of Trustees named Steven G. Poskanzer, J.D., president of the college. He assumed the office in August 2010.

Poskanzer was the president at the State University of New York (SUNY) at New Paltz

Carleton Board of Trustees chair and presidential search committee co-chair Jack Eugster '67 said. “Poskanzer's successes as president at SUNY–New Paltz and as a teacher-scholar are just the type of experiences the search committee and the Board of Trustees sought for Carleton’s next president."

Poskanzer is a graduate of Princeton University (A. B. cum laude) and Harvard University Law School. He has worked for the University of Pennsylvania, University of Chicago, and the State University of New York.

He has served as a Commissioner of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and on the Boards of Directors for Mid-Hudson Pattern for Progress, the Mohonk Mountain House, the Mohonk Preserve, and St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital.
