Students-oncampus

Students-oncampus is an opt-out email list at Carleton. As the name indicates, all on-campus students are on this list. A typical email includes notifications of upcoming events, general announcements (like registration or room draw), and other important announcements. Opting out is as easy as visiting the Carleton ListServe.
The first use of this system was in early 2000 to announce then-President Bill Clinton as that year's commencement speaker. Due to the nature of the message, and the fact that the email list had never been used before, many students assumed it was a prank.
