Talk:NetID
From CarlWiki
Trevor, the actual name is CarlNetID, I believe. That's what we always call it in Sys/Net when we're writing projects. Also, when you register a computer on the network, it specifically asks for your "CarlNetID." NetID a generic term, and therefore we try to differentiate it by calling it a CarlNetID. --Michael Moore '06 30 Mar 1:07PM NL Time
- It's true that NetID is a generic term, but in the context of CarlWiki, its meaning is clear. A Google search of Carleton.edu finds 15 hits for NetID (some with the word "Carleton" in front of it, others without) but only 3 hits for CarlNetID (2 of them on Gridley, 1 being the registration page). I think we can agree that "CarlNetID" is short for "Carleton NetID," and that the "Carleton" can be safely omitted for an article name on CarlWiki. --Trevor Burnham '07 07:07, 30 Mar 2005 (PST)
- Since the ITS website has no hits for "NetID" (versus 9 hits, on their own search engine, for "NetID"), I think it's a bit misleading to say that it's officially referred to by them as "CarlNetID." Maybe it would be more accurate to say that it's internally referred to that way? --Trevor Burnham '07 15:38, 4 Apr 2005 (PDT)
I suspect that this page is full of obsolete information since it's over 4 years old. It's probably ripe for an update and lots of past tense. But, what would I know? Ken Wedding '67 18:46, 6 October 2009 (BST)
