Talk:Screw Your Roommate
From CarlWiki
when did this 'officially' change from screw your roommate (the official term, as far as I'm aware, when I attended 97-02) Mike waggoner '01 10:34, 14 Apr 2005 (PDT)
- I don't know, but it definitely has been officially "Set Up Your Roommate" since I arrived in 2003. So, if you're correct that it was officially "Screw Your Roommate" through 2002, then 2003 was the first year when it was called that. Students certainly still more commonly called it "Screw Your Roommate," which is why that's the article name. --Trevor Burnham '07 13:38, 15 Apr 2005 (PDT)
I'm pretty sure it was "set up" back to 1999, when I arrived, but I can't prove it. 128.101.214.101 16:04, 15 Apr 2005 (PDT)

The CarlWiki article links Screw Your Roommate to the older history of "Computer Date Night" events of the 1960s. There were certainly some similarities, but the one was not the begetter of the other in any direct sense. Odds are that those who started "Screw Your Roommate" in the 1980s were completely unaware of Carleton's "Computer Date Nights" of a couple decades before, and that their inspiration was, as suggested by the 1/13/89 article, "other college campuses."
