Talk:The Cave

The Cave may be a long-standing tradition at Carleton, but it hasn't always been a pub. When I was a student in the mid-'60s, it was a warm, dark place for couples to get together. I recall that there were some special events there, but no beer, no coffiee, no bands, practically nothing. I don't recall hearing anything about it having been a pub or a coffee house in earlier days. Whenever it became a pub (in those years when the drinking age was lowered to 18?), I was not around and no one notified me of the change.

Then again, I'm an old fart with failing memories who didn't know all that much to start with. I do however, bristle at the notion of describing something that's been going on for 20-25 years is a long-standing tradition. I've got children older than that. Ken Wedding '67

I helped manage the Cave in 2000-01. I was told at some point that the Cave had once been partitioned off with some sort of waist-high wooden divider marking the area for of-age drinkers and minors. I'm not sure when that was, but it was well before I got to campus in 1997. Andy Pierce '01
