The Libe Bug Incident was a prank successfully carried out by an unknown number of Carls on February 3, 1996. The bug, a large sculpture which occupied the lobby of the Lawrence McKinley Gould Library, was dismantled and reassembled on the stage of the Concert Hall, as if about to give a performance. To prevent library employees from notifying Security, as the prank was pulled off during library hours, all the phone recievers were removed from their cradles throughout the building. The bug was removed from its new home within a day. In the meantime, the Concert Hall was locked, with a sign on the door reading "Closed due to bug infestation".

Upon the return of the phone recievers, library employees were able to replace all but one - the phone to which it belonged could not be located.
