The User Files
From CarlWiki
The User Files is the most popular conference on Caucus. It consists of over 300 items, each of them created by a student or alum as a personal platform on Caucus. User Files, as they're called, vary widely in composition, ranging from long-term political discussions to questions about classes. They are considered by some to be a replacement for a LiveJournal or other personal blog. Many User Files-philes claim that the UF is significantly superior to a LiveJournal or other public blog because of the privacy offered. Because of the nature of Caucus, The User Files may only be accessed by those with a Carleton NetID. Due to this private community feeling, very in-depth and heated disussions take place in the UF. At any time, there may be a political issue to debate or a campus issue to discuss.
The User Files was created on Feb. 16, 1999 by William Murray '00, as a successor to the original NOTES conference WHO (and later WHO2). WHO was designed as a place to get to know who the various people on NOTES were; The User Files had that intention originally but has since evolved into a sort of personalized chatroom.
