- Gods of Plastic won Ultimate D3 national championship
- Eclipse, tied for third in its attempt to defend its 2011 Ultimate D3 crown
- Ray Jacobson, professor emeritus, died in Northfield at age 91. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 12, at Skinner Memorial Chapel.
- Reed Whittemore, a former Carleton professor (1947-1966), editor of The Carleton Miscellany, and poet laureate of the United States died 6 April 2012, at age 92.
- Professor Emeritus David Maitland, former college chaplain, died February 22. Memorial services were held February 24 at the Northfield UCC. He was 89 years old.
- Professor Emeritus George Soule, '51 died on Saturday, 24 Dec. 2011. A memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. June 15, 2012, in Skinner Memorial Chapel.
- Bonnie Nadzam, '99, won the Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel Prize awarded by The Center for Fiction Center for Fiction announcement
- Professor of mathematics Deanna Haunsperger earned the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) M. Gweneth Humphreys Award. The award recognizes the amazing community of women in mathematics that Haunsperger has created and nurtured for many years. Carleton news release
